Trilene Big Game 8lb for shakey heads?

Featured Replies

I use big game for most of my applications (10 cranks, 12 light worm and jig, 15 spinnerbaits, bigger jigs and worms) so could big game 8 lb work for shakey head fishing?  I have been using Seaguar Invisx in 8-10 lb but it keeps breaking off and not neccassarily at the knot every time.  I have never had a problem with big game breaking, but is the 8lb big game to visible in clear water?  What do you guys think?

Nope, it 's not too visible and most times line visibility doesn 't matter, the only places I 've fished where line visibility is an issue is in a couple of lakes where the water is gin clear and you can see the bottom 30ft deep.

I used to fish tournaments on Missouri lakes like Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Beaver back in the day...those are examples of lakes that fluorocarbon would give you a low-visibility advantage.  Other than gin clear water, I also don't think line visibility is an issue.  Granted braid is too far to the other extreme for me...a lot of anglers have success with it, but I just don't have confindence fishing highly visible sewing thread.  I fish fluorocarbon for the sensitivity advantage only, but still use a lot of Pline CXX.  I've contemplated going back to only CXX, but I haven't made up my mind.

i use 10lb trilene xl on my shakey rig, and have no problems, big game has too much memory to use in finesse applications IMO

Can't believe you are having problems w invizx??? This is by far the greatest line that I have ever used... I have pulled up 20lb. Pike on only 8# on numerous occasions. If you have to go to a stronger line, I would check out Trilene Maxx...Still stronger yet you aren't going w so much visibility...

I used 15 lb Seaguar before with no problems, but had two break offs with the 8 lb test on my shakey head rig. I always retie and check my line for abrasion. I won't use Seaguar again for this application.
