Well, here in PA the seasons coming to an end.  Every year i like to try to master a new technique or a new lure.  This season it was spinner baits, which i have a pretty good understanding and amount of confidence with now.  Next year i want to have confidence in jigs, which i have very very little in now. I was just wondering if you guys have any good advice on how to fish jigs or any good tricks.  keep in mind i do 75% of my fishing from shore.  Thanks a lot for your help guys!!

I have also been learning to fish the jig.  The bite is so different than plastic worms.  Just a little "tic" and I learned to get the hook set!!!

Yea, I keep trying to force myself to learn the jig.  Never have much patience with it.  I need to fish it for a couple of weeks and leave all the other baits at home.  I think I maybe caught one fish in my lifetime on a jig.

It's all i ever want to fish on some days.Jigs are addicting to fish if you have some good luck with it like i do.

Jigs are not as popular in Florida as they are most everywhere else

the shallow weed chocked lakes lend themselves better to pegged "florida rig" weedless plastics

That being said.   I LOVE JIGS.  funny but I truly enjoy flipping and pitching those skirted hunks o lead.

I have caught alot of nice bass on them too.

I'm no expert but there are a few guys around here who are pretty good at this technique.

Start at the beginning and follow RW's link.

Be prepared to lose them, lots of them, especially from shore. Get some good florocarbon too.

O'yeah...swings are free, so swing on anything that feels "different" unless your fishing in wood. Those trees like to take your jigs when you mistake them for fish ;D

If you really want to learn to fish a jig go and leave everything else at home. I tried it years ago and it forced me to learn or go to the house. It is going to really aggravate you learning to fish the grass. Just stay with it and fish for the 4-5 bites you will get. It is hard for a lot of fishermen to learn to fish vertical, but it will be required in the grass. Try to learn to fish braid as this will allow a firmer hookset and the braid will cut through the grass as you are fighting a fish a lot better than mono.
