? regarding line size.

Featured Replies

I'm using spiderwire stealth 8lb test on my St. Croix Avid 7' baitcaster. The rod is rated for 10lb line or higher. I'm assuming that this isn'ta real concern as far as performance goes, is it?

Are there any issues to be concerned about when using a thinner diameter line on a rod that is rated for a thicker line?

I'm using this with a curado 200d bait cast reel.

I may be wrong but I think the rating on the rod is more of a lb. test rating not a diameter rating.  You should be okay if you aren't already having casting issues.

Just curious, are you having problems with the Stealth digging down into the spool? I tried 30# Stealth before and had nothing but problems.

The last time I went out it did seem as though the line seemed tightly wrapped in the spool.

I just got the reel re-lined with the same stuff so the next time i go out I'll be looking for that issue to see if I have the same problem.

Do you still use spider wire line or do you use anything different now?

I think one of the issues with using braid that small is that it tends to "dig" into itself on the spool.

I have used spiderwire in the past and thought it was okay, but I have switched to either power pro or suffix performance.

You may want to go to heavier braid for you bc, like a 50 lb or 65lb, IMO.

I use 50lb power pro on my 6'6" avid. Setting the drag looser will help avoid the problem with the line digging into the spool
