jig masters

Featured Replies

I really love jig fishing but do not have confidence in fishing them in the shallow, dense weed cover we have here in florida.

I see you texas boys love your heavy oldham's jigs for the thick stuff.

Question.......which model jig and what weight do you think best for thick weed mats in approx. 4' of water.

Question...... do you trim the weedguard?

question.........do you think rattles are a plus or a minus in the weeds.

thankee

I've never tried it (i plan on it soon tho) but the newer "Jig-X" jig looks like it would be good in that situation....your knot is somehow inside the jighead so it wont get a bunch of build up.

I ALWAYS trim my weed guard to where it is bairly over the hookpoint.

I think rattles are always a plus.

I hope this helps/

I like the grassmaster jigs from, I want to say they are made by all-terrain tackle. They have a fairly weedless head. Put this way, you are pulling grass off the head of the jig about every 6 or 7th flip instead of every flip like most jigs.

The only time I usually trim weed guards ever is when I'm fishing grass. Besides that I leave them alone.

When it comes to rattles, anything that helps the fish find the bait is always a good thing  :)

Bass XL: With that type a head with the "Jig-X" where the spot for the knot is recessed into the head, can you still tie a regular palomar? If you did it looks like the jig would swim and ho to the side or something.

Keep in mind vertical presentations are what are required to fish heavy grass; I rarely flip more than 15-20' away; this is also the time for braided line because it'll cut through the grass.

no, it wont sway.....if you can see it...You put the line through the tip, and it goes to the back of the jighead where you can tie it....it doesnt look like a palmar know would work...but i'm not sure...
