I have a 7'MH fast rod with a 200dhsv curado and was woundering if I put 50# braid for frogs and such would it still work for worms and smaller swimbaits and all around jigs and such or is braid only for frogin mainly??

I've been using braid (30lb Suffix) for about two months and have not noticed any difference in regards to the actual fish.  They don't seem to care that i've switched but I'm not fishing much clear water.  I've pulled up some pretty nasty things with the braid, garnering a few buzzbaits and cranks that someone else most likely lost using mono or fluoro.  That being said, it's pricey, and after a few times it becomes like string so it can get caught in your hooks easily when using a walk the dog or jerk type bait.  I think it depends on how many fish you're losing due to breakoffs, what type of water you'll be fishing and to some extent how many cranks your losing to snags.  For where I fish I won't be going back to mono ever based on my limited experience.  

You can use whatever you want.

50 pound test braid can be great for frogs.

However, here are the basic rules from Ike on line:

Mono for treble hook baits.

Flourocarbon and copoly for anything.

Braid and super lines for frogs, heavy cover and deep water.

Just use what you feel comfortable and experiment with different brands, types of line, test and color.

This should take you the rest of your life.  ;D   ;D   ;D

I have braid on all of my baitcasters and most of my spinning reels.  For clear water jig type fishing I use a fluro leader.  For spinnerbaits and buzzbaits I tie direct.

Yesterday was my first full outing using Power-Pro Braided line.  I am using 50lbs on my bait caster and 30lbs on my spinning reel.

I was basically using 5" trick sticks yesterday in every color and not having any luck.  But I don't blame the line for this just my presentation.  Should have been fishing it slower.  Did develop a nice green spot on my thumb from my bait caster though.lol

Just curious, when not catching, why didn't you change the presentation?  

A beginner.  Read last night when using plastics some times you need to really slow down your presentation and when you think you are going slow enough slow down some more.  Sometimes letting the worm sit on the bottom for 3-4 minutes or as long as you can possibly stand it.lol

Does this sound correct for when the fish are being inactive?

I fish braid for everything and I haven't seen a difference in amount of bites or anything.  I fish fairly clear lakes but they also have a lot of spots of lillypads and cover.  The reason I switched is because I was missing hits and I attributed it to the stretch of the mono and also because I wanted the option to rip the fish out of lillies without motoring to it.

alrite I have lost a few cranks and a buddy loses his xraps dew to rocks and snags and well be fishing jigs worms and smaller swimbaits and dont want to lose them all when I am out there rely can tick ya off!! but I believe I get "more" bites?? I question this but when I bounce them off the rocks a little bit  so I am thinking about putting on braid on my baitcaster

For those of you that are worried or do not want to lose lures, baits and such, just buy a 19.00 lure saver.  Works great.  Everything from cranks and spinnerbaits to jigs.  Mine has saved me about 100.00 since I bought it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  I use thirty or fifty pound braid on all of my reels, both bait casting and spinning.  I also use a fluoro leader on all of my braids.  In my opinion, I have the best of both worlds.  i.e. Very little line twist and superior breaking strength with the braid.  Line invisibility and a sacrificial break-off area with the fluoro.

Use braid IF you

Do not want to worry about your drag

Do not want to worry about your nicked line

Do not want to worry about your knot

Do not want to worry about line twist

etc. etc.

I do not tie any leaders to braid and braid is all I use 65-80lb test

If I feel like the fish can see it sometimes I will take a black marker and color a few feet of the line.

adclem- Were you getting bites before on your stick baits?  If so it might have been due to the braid slowing down the fall of your bait since braid floats more than other lines.  Also, it may cost me a few fish every couple of years but, I don't dead stick my baits for 3-4 minutes ever (unless I am in Florida and there was a massive spring cold front but thats a different story or I am sight fishing).
