Featured Replies

Looking for a new topper water rod. Was wondering if anyone uses a rod with a extra-fast tip for topwater and any suggestions in general?

I used search but couldnt find what i was looking for

Did you go to the Loomis web site to read about their rods and apply that information to your query?

What about the All Star or Kistler web sites?

The rod makers have details about their rods that you can use when searching for your particular rod so give them a view.

Rods are a personal preference and there is a lot of factors that go into a rod's selection.  So check out the web sites; read the replies you get on this site; and then Google "selecting a bass fishing rod" and see what you get.

But please check out the Loomis website as they discuss each rod type in detail.  :D

Thanks Sam, I did check some manufacturers websites, thats one of the reasons I asked about the extra fast tip. Some say moderate action and others like St. Croix say extra-fast action). So im confused on what to get. I definitely will go handle all rods that are suggested at the basspro in Ashland before I make a decision.

Also check out Green Top as those guys really know their stuff.

Ask for Mickey or Jeff.  Even old Ron and bald Billy can help you.

Green Top would be a great source of information.

The Bait Monkey is looking for you.  ;D

All treble hook lures should be fished on a rod with a soft tip.

However, tip firmness varies regardless of the Action rating.

Generally, I would recommend 6 1/2' or 7' Medium power/

Moderate Action. A specific rod is the St. Croix Avid AVC70MM.

I fish topwater and jerkbaits with an Avid AC66MF which has a soft

tip. This combination of length, Action and tip flexibility is ideal

for working these lure classes.
