BPS extreme rod's power hump

Featured Replies

Does anyone else hate the power hump on the BPS's rods? I think the rod seems super light, very sensitive, but I can not get used to the grip. For me it makes it harder to feather the spool when casting.

sand it down. use a fine grade sand paper and take your time. you might work on an old rod first to see whats going to happen.

I hate the feel of the power hump as well.  Never thought about sanding it down though.

Later, :)

I don't like the power hump either.  I've got 2 BPS rods with them.  I'll sell the 1 rod after a while and keep the Crankin Stick.  After that...no more buying BPS rods.  There's too many better alternatives out there.

Thanks for all the responses, I don't think I will be buying BPS rods anymore either. I got this one as a Extreme combo for $99 wanting to try  BPS equip. I will probably try and sand it down.  Thanks again for the suggestions and comments

I have never had a problem with it...Don't quiet know what it's for but it has no bearing on my fishing what-so-ever

i have their 6'9" ML prolite finesse rod...i HATE the powerhump but love the rod.

I dont mind the hump at all.  Im not sure what it does as far as power for your hookset but I like it.  Makes it more of a beefy rod!  ;D

The best way to sand down the power hump is to:

1.  Put duct tape over the brass colored ring in front of the cork

2.  Use 220 sand paper

3.  Place the rod on a soft seat chair and sit on it with handle in front

4.  Sand with narrow strips (1-2") with your hands on each end

5.  Sand with the same motion as if you were shining a shoe

6.  Keep checking until you like the size

This does not take long and it does make a difference in how they feel.

I alternate from a BPS with the hump and never notice the difference.
