fast or extra fast?

Recommended Posts

lets say you only have two rods on boat, same power and length but one is F and one is XF. for what lures/presentations would you pick up the XF over the F and vice versa?

thanks

At that point it's all preference.  You'll just have to try your favorite techniques on each rod... you'll know very quickly which you prefer.

I prefer fast over x-fast for worming, but many prefer x-fast.  I believe that is going to be the case for most things... a split response.

I prefer X-fast over fast for spinnerbaits and unweighted soft plastics.

I know this has not been talked about yet so let e say this. It depends on the maker of the rod.  There is no industry standard as far as power ratings so I may use a G Loomis that has a extra fast rating that is actually more limber and slower than a fast in a St Croix. More on the subject Moderate for trebele cranks,jerks....fast for topwater like gunfish and sammy. The rod seems to rebound faster and make the bait work with easy and extra fast for jigs, t rigs, shaky heads and eightless flukes. The one exception is traps. I like a moderate crankin rod for open water and a extra fast if I am rippin grass.
