2009 Cabelas Fishing Catalog

Recommended Posts

Got mine this past Friday.  Alot of great new stuff & prices have gone up on alot of things also.

The rod that got my attention is the new Cabelas Prodigy baitcast & spinning rods.  They have split grip handles, but I don't know much of the guides being used.  But they are aluminum oxide guides though, wonder if they are comparable to Fuji Alconites or lower end Fuji guides?  I noticed that the XMLTi rods for musky fishing aren't in the new catalog, I guess they have discontinued the XMLTi musky rods.

The reels that I am interested this year are the new Quantum Energy tour baitcast reel & the Energy PTi-B spinning reel.  Those are very good looking reels & I am going to be getting them.  The new E21 Carrot Gold Stix will be available too.  I'm very happy w/ the Carrot Stix LTX I have, I really don't like the lengths & action of the new Carrot Gold Stix.

Daiwa prices have gone up & Kistler & Shimano rod prices have gone up too.  Kistler has remodeled their line & have added the new Argon & Carbon rods also.  It's like the North American made version of the Magnesium, which have dropped in price & made in China.  Quantum Superlight rods have gone up in price also.  Shimano rods have gone up $20, so the Cumaras/Crucials/Compres cost that much more.

I noticed that Pflueger baitcast reels don't come in left hand, their higher end models.  The new President which looks great does not come in left hand.  Pflueger has lost business w/ me for not selling left hand baitcast reels.  Oh yeah, the Trion LP & round baitcast reels come in left hand...yay.  Shimano Symetre/Sahara/Sedona/Spirex/Solstace have gone up in price & don't come w/ a spare spool.  You need to buy a Saros & on up to get a spare spool.  The new Shimano Chronarch will be available in March.  I don't like the looks, it's a Core.  I prefer the previous version & looking to getting one by spring, new B model Chronarch.

Fenwick Elite Tech Walleye 6'3" Med spinning rod looks like it would be the perfect dock skipping rod.  The cork handle looks like it would give a very good grip when your hands get wet.  I like that or maybe the new Prodigy 6' med spining for dock skipping....

For fishing line, the new Tuf Line Dura Cast looks promising for spinning reels.  It says it's made for spinning reels & it's suppose to prevent wind-knots & rod-tip wraps.  Price wise it's a cheaper than Power Pro or Sufix.

There's a whole bunch of new lures that I am interested in & Cabelas has a Storm Thin Fin version that I want to try out, it also comes in a Sexy Shad color.  I saw the new Spro BBZ-1 Shad will be available too.  The weight is 7/8 oz, it's the only one they carry & it's the slow sinker; 3" per second fall rate.

So far I like what Cabelas has to offer for 2009 in fishing.  I'm sure they will be adding things through out the year.

So what new 2009 fishing stuff are you looking to buy?

On the carrot sticks the only difference between the gold and the ltx is a spacer between the reel seat and the foam and it has an adjustable balance piece.... but if u look at the ltx u can take off the little rubber piece on the back and its hollow, so you can balance it that way.  Not worth the extra money.  just a heads up

I am looking at few items this year.  I have been throwing cranks more than anything the past two years so I would like to get a Daiwa crazy cranker reel and put it on a Powell 806CB rod (new for 09) for deep divers. Also looking at getting a Frog rod. Maybe St Croix LTB Frog Rod with a Zillion. Always wanted a Loomis spinnerbait rod and the new GLX spinnerbait rod has me drooling. Hopefully I will be able to get something from that list.

As for tackle I would like to pick up Spro Little Johns, a Mattlures Hard Gill, 3/4 Red Eye Shad, double wide Sweet Beavers, and couple Lucky Craft Stacysees Ver. 3 designed by Gary Dobyns.  And of course get more terminal tackle.

The Prodigy Rods do look interesting and too bad I just picked up another XML ML spinning and a XMLTi casting on clearance or I would be trying to get one of both the Prodigy rods.

I will be getting the New Quantum Catalyst PTI-B spinning reel once they hit the store.

Other than the reel I have pretty much picked up all my rods on clearance with 4 XML's now and a XMLTi to got along with my other Cabelas setups

I noticed that the XMLTi rods for musky fishing aren't in the new catalog, I guess they have discontinued the XMLTi musky rods.

these are being clearanced in the bargain cave at half-price ($90) so i'm sure they're discontinued.

as for the new 2009 reels, i noticed that many of the cabelas and bass pro shops reels now feature swept handles and more bling.

too bad half the new prodigy rods come in 2-piece models...that, to me, is a bad sign.

They are designed for thier Musky customers, and they seem to seel fine. I am with you , I prefer one piece rods. Also with the Tourney im 7  a lot of MedFast instead of fast actions on the Bait Casting entries.

Also noticed that the Revo SC is no longer listed? >:)

I noticed that as well...I wonder why?  That is a great reel.

I would've gotten one last year IF Cabelas/Abu Garcia offered it in left hand, I really liked the red color of the reel.
