Abu Ambassadeur 5000
I believe that the 5000 was the red reel with bushings, no bearings. The bushings can be changed to bearings. The brake blocks are most likely white and can be changed to blue brake blocks to cast lighter lures.Depending on exactly what year your reel was made the gear ratio could be 3:8-1, 4:7-1 or 5:3-1. You can changes the gears from everything from 3:8-1 to 6:3-1. Lots of room to upgrade and a great reel to learn how to work on your own reels.

Why Are The Old "round" Baitcasters Still Popular?
I have several Morrum 3600M, SX3600Mag, SX1600, SX3600Ferrell and a couple of Black Max and Pro Max 1600. I love the round reels.

Abu Garcia Icast 2013 News...
harmon, you are right if you don't like a product don't buy it. I have been using abu products since the mid '70's (5000's, 5500's and 2500C's), Shimano reels since 1980 (Bantam 100's and 300's) and most recently Daiwa. Of all the sites that I visit I have never seen as many problems that individuals on this site seem to have with reels.

Lew's Durrability
I had two of the Tournament Pro's and numerous Gen 1, 2 and 3 Revo's. The only one I have keep is a is a Gen 3 STX. I really have no dog in this fight, so all the Patch Pirates can keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
-
Lew's Durrability
Built in the same factory as the Revo and BPS, by the same people, with many of the same parts yet Lews are light years ahead. Ya

Daiwa Fuego?
I have three Fuego's one I bought when they were being closed out and the other two were used. I think I paid $120.00 or $125.00 for the used ones. They are the poor mans TDZ.

Future Of The Curado
I don't know what Shimano is going to do with the Curado, but if they make it like the old E the price point to going to be $200.00 at least. The only other way is to have it manufactured by an OEM in Korea or China.

Future Of The Curado
The G is just as good if not better then the 200SF, that everyone thought was a great reel. I would like to know if the bashers have ever opened a G and compaired it against a 200SF or for that matter an E? I am not sponsered by Shimano, and in fact have more Diawa's then anything else, but know that Shimano has manufactured a quality reel in the G series.

Help With Daiwa Sol
Are the new gears Aluminum? I believe the original main gear 5:8-1 is brass and if the new one is aluminum that might be causing the geary feel.

Generation 3 Revo Sx
Revos are made in Korea, not China, along with Lews, BPS and even the new Daiwa Lexa

Mossyback Or Avid?
I have both and think the Mosseyback is the better rod.

Crankbait Rod
I have been experimenting with a number of different crankbait rods the last couple of years and have settled on S-Glass rods as the best for me. I tried a couple of Powell Max series graphite crankbait rods (706CB and 704CB)although sensitive, not very forgiving, tips are too fast for me. I also discoved that there a some manufactures that list their rods as glass, but in reality are composites. So be very careful in selecting a crankbait rod.

Powell Max Vs G.loomis Gl2
The Powell is excellent choice. I will supply my .02 cents worth on the GL2. Is the GL2 a GLX no, but it is a good rod. I actually have a GL2 (802s), and fished it this past season and I really liked the handle and the way it fished. I have converted to all G. Loomis rods over the last year or two IMX, GLX and NRX except for Crankbaits which I prefer glass and Loomis does not offer glass rods, and my lone GL2. So do not be so fast as to right off the GL2 until you have fished one.

Glass Crankbait Rod
I prefer a glass rod for all my crank bait applications. For square bill I prefer a Powell 703 Max Glass rated MH Mod/Fast. I believe there is nothing better then glass to keep a fish hooked up. I also have Powell 706CB and 704CB graphite rods, but the tips are too fast, and I loose too many fish on these rods.

New Stx Issue: Tight Retrieve
I have a Gen 3 STX and 8 Gen 1's STX and SX and never had a problem. I guess I have just been lucky. Now I did own several Curado E's which I did not like, but never found it necessay to bad mouth a manufacture. I guess when you get old enough you don't have to justify your buying decisions.

Pro Qualifier Modifications/upgrades
Most likely the best sub $100.00 reel avaiable.

Revo Gen 3 Reels
My gen 1 Revo's and my new Gen 3 STX says Korea. Maybe some other Pure Fishing reels are made in china, but not the Revo bait casters.
