  1. If you are losing Pike, Northerns etc., and toothy critter ITS NOT YOUR LINE.
  2. I have only fished the 4 inch and 5 inch on a BC in heavy cover. This year I am going to use the Spinning for the 4 inch with 20 lb braid.
  3. I know I should sell some, but just cannot part with any on them. Now rods are a different story, don't have near as many and sell and trade them all the time.
  4. If it was my first bait casting combo, I think I would get a 6'6" Medium Fast. The shorter rod will be more accurate and IMO this combo would be good for small cranks, spinnerbaits and 1/4 - 1/2 jigs and soft plastics.
  5. I forgot a Patriarch wide spool
  6. :-XJust completed an inventory of my bait casting reel. 1 ea. Chronarch B 3 ea Citica 100dsv 1 ea Fuego 2 ea Luna 103 3 ea Prodigy by Daiwa 4 ea Revo SX 2 ea Revo STX 2 ea Revo SC 2 ea 4600 C4 (Up graded to C5) 2 ea 4600 C3 (Up graded to C5) 1 ea 4600 C5 Mag 2 ea 3600 Black Max (Gear Ratio 6:3-1) 2 ea 1600 Black Max (Gear Ratio 6:3-1) 1 ea 5500C NIB 1 ea 5000 1 ea Advantage Super Tuned 1 ea Revo Premier
  7. My Dad bought me a Shakespeare bait caster called a 1969 Super Sport. I still have that reel, in the original box. my dad passed away a long time ago.
  8. Not a Shimano hater, and own several Citica 100, along with a couple of Chronarch B's and even have a 1980 Bantam 100 (retired of course). Not to mention Stradic's and Greenies, but are they better then my Daiwa's or Abu nope.
  9. Oh, by the way Abu was making reels long before the first Bantam 100's were made. In fact you can still get most of the parts for reels made in the '50's. Try finding a pinion gear for the 100's, 200's or 300 Bantams.
  10. If you like plastic then the Shimano is for you. If you want aluminum then the Revo. If you want a better reel then the Advantage Super Tuned.
  11. Yep, The Hybrid is the way to go. The line is so good I don't bother going out on tournament day I just sent the line. I think you all are making to much of the different lines. I use it all, but I don't think hybrid is any better then a good fluorocarbon.
  12. The Pro-Max, Black Max, Silver Max and Tournament Pro 1600, 3600 and 5600 series had instant anti-Reverse. Most of the Pro-Max and Black Max were 5:3-1, but there was some produced with a "C" that were 6:3-1. The 6:3-1 gears may still be available from Pure Fishing, I changed a Pro-Max and 4 Black Max's to 6:3-1 a couple of years ago. I never owned a Silver Max, but the Tournament Pro's were 6:3-1. IMO these were some of the best reels Abu ever made, much better then the plastic reel that carry the names today.
  13. I it does not wiggle, its not a fish. ;D
  14. Blueberry was the color I did best with. Another worm was the Jakes tournament worm in Black/Grape.
  15. I don't see any reason that the rod would not work for those applications.
  16. 1. Spool Bearings, ABEC 5/ABEC 7. 2. Level wind a ;)ssembly and additional bearing from a C5 (Pure Fishing has all the parts, but I would guess Reel Mech. also has them.) 3. Idler gear with a bearing. When you are done, the reel will be a 6500C6
  17. Thanks Chris, No night fishing, just old eyes.
  18. Has and body used this yet? If so what are thoughts?
  19. Currently using 15 lb Triple Fish on a couple of bait casters and its working well. I have not used any other lb test.
  20. True story. Last tournament of the year and I spooled on some 15 lb. Triple Fish Fluoro instead of my usual 17 lb. Stren. Tough bite but landed the 2nd big Bass of the tournament on the Triple Fish. I don't think I would have felt the bite on the Stren.
  21. I believe the old round Black Max in 5:3-1 is around 21 inches and you could put in a 4:7-1 Main gear and pinion and be I think at 19 inches.
  22. Just a tip, but you can get more beer in the frig. if you get the line out.
  23. ;)I started this thread to be light hearted. I own all the major brands of reels and enjoy each and every one of them. I might even have an Zebco 33, from 40 years ago. The first bait casters that I got from my father was a Shakespeare model 1969, and it still casts good, but I have retired it a long time ago.
  24. Years ago we caught alot of bass with Abu 4:7-1 and Shimano 100 5:1 reels. These were considered fast at that time. I would guess that a fish swimming at you could be a problem, but horsing them out of heavy cover will not be a problem.
