  1. My first rod is a G loomis SBR752. 6'3" MXF/14lb Sten original and Daiwa Advantage Reel works great for close in work 1/4 - 3/8 oz baits. The second rod is a St Croix 6'6" MF (keep in mine that a St Croix M is closer to most rod companies MH)14 - 17 lb Stren original/same reel 3/8 - 1/2 baits.
  2. I love the Zillion, but I don't get all worked up on sub $200.00 reels.
  3. I also use the Series 1 Sk a lot. The Combo that has worked well for me is a St Croix pro glass 6'6" MM and Luna 103.
  4. Been using original stren in 17lb for many years, and never had a problem. I have been using Stren Duro Tuf in 12lb and 14lb, I bought some 3000 yard spools a couple of years ago, and that stuff is some strong line.
  5. I have seen braid snap on slack line hook set. It can happen and it does.
  6. I carry 10 baitcasters and 2 spinning reels in the boat. That leaves me 15 spare baitcasters and 2 spare spinning reels. I really should sell some of the reel I don't use.
  7. Then the Avid it is. Thanks,
  8. Then can I assume that a SBR752(I have two) Loomis would also make a good jerk bait rod since it has an extra fast tip? I really want to stay with 6' to 6'6" the 813 might be too long.
  9. I was think about adding a jerk bait rod, Loomis JBR752CTD, for 1/4 - 3/8 baits to pair up with a Sol. Then I though that my Avid 6'6" MF might work and save me some money. Has anybody used the Loomis rod, if so pro and cons same with the Avid. Thanks,
  10. Yes, I think the Techa AV MF has served me well over the years for this application.
  11. I am fishing a tournament this weekend, and will be using 3/8 to 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. Since I will not be using my boat, and need to limit the number of rods I take. My choices are as follows: Techna AV 6'6" MF (this the rod I normally use). Techna AV 6'6" MHF Avid 6'6" MF HMG 7'0" MH (rod is not rated, but my guess is moderate/fast) Distance casting is not as important as accuracy. Thanks
  12. Been using 17lb Stren Clear/Blue Original the last couple of years and love it. Good Abrasion resistance, handles well and good knot strength. My problem with XL is that it has almost no abrasion resistance. XT has excellect abrasion resistance, but is not avaiable in Clear/Blue. By the way I am a line watcher.
  13. I upgraded the Revo SX, SC, STX and Primier with additional magnets, and they work OK, but near as well as the Mag Force. I don't own any reels with the dual braking system so I can't comment on that system. As of right now Daiwa has become my reel of choice.
  14. I have recently been using some Daiwa reels, and I must say I really like the Mag Force V and Z brake control. I sold or traded all my Shimano reels, but kept Abu Revo's as my only other low profile reel. What is everybody else think of the Daiwa brake system? I am going to start looking for a TD Z, or alpha this coming winter.
  15. Traded my Chronarch 100B for 1 SX3600 Mag and 1 SX3600C both in like new condition, but so was my Shimano. I really love round reels.
  16. My opinion of P-line is as follows: CXX extreme abrasion resistance, but also extremely thick line. CX good handling line about like Berkley XL Fluroclear breaks at the sight of water.
  17. I agree with DVT 1 OK, 2 maybe never 3.
  18. Yes I think I will pay more attention to the lure weight rating. Thanks,
  19. I should have been more specific, these are some of the rods I own. The MH XML is a pool Q, the Crucial MH is a wimp and a GLX 803 seems to have more backbone but lesser line rating then the Shimano.
  20. Getting ready for another season, and noticed major differences between rod manufactures. Shimano Crucial Heavy 12-25lb line Shimano Crucial MH 10-20lb line Fenwich Techna AV MH 12-25lb line Fenwich HMG Medium 8-20lb line Cabelas XML Medium Heavy Pitching 12-30lb line It's no wonder people have a tough time picking a rod. >
  21. If keep in a cool and dark location Mono should last indefinitly.
  22. Ok, next on my list of must have is a Calcutta 200GTB. That is one sweet looking reel.
  23. Difficult to really compare a Luna with a C5 Mag, but I will try. 1. Luna machined aluminum frame and side plates. The C5 mag not the same construction. 2. The C5 Mag has the magnetic adjustment at the top of the palming side plate. If you palm the reel, I do, you may find yourself moving the magnetic adjustment. 3. I perfer to convert the C3 and/or C4 to C5 worm gear. Hope this helps. Oh the C5 Mag color is cool. ;D
  24. My understanding of the difference betwwen a C3 and a Ultra Cast is that the Ultra Cast has at least one really large bearing similar to the M3600 Morrum. Because of the size of the bearing they are not very good with light lures. There was a conversion kit for the Morrum to convert the oversize bearing to a standard size bearing, both of my M3600 have this conversion.
  25. I love the little Diawa 103's, and have been using them as shallow to mid-depth crank bait reels 1/4 to 3/8 oz baits. I don't remember just what the IPT is, but think about 24 or 25 with a 5:8-1 ratio. The Mag Force Z is excellent, and if I didn't have some many reel I would be looking for another one.
