Action: Fast vs. Extra Fast

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is a repeat topic I searched and couldn't find anything.  Just wondering what other guys prefer and what techniques they use for Xtra Fast vs. Fast.

i own a few xf rods but have not had a chance to use them yet. some people prefer them over fast for jigs and worms, shakey jigs and drop shot rigs. they are also supposed to be a little more sensitive than fast rods. they also tend to have a stiffer backbone than fast rods as they only bend at the upper part of the rod.

the strange thing is that some say they have a softer tip than fast rods and others say its stiffer. if you can wait until august, ill get back to you on that :)

Xfast for flipping, unweighted soft plastics, d-shot.

I use x-fast in my St. Croix Avid spinning rods.  One is for drop-shotting and the other is for shakey head fishing.  Found the x-fast tip was a lot more sensitive to a light pick up or strike.

I use a 6'8" medium Avid spinning in ex-fast for unweighted plastics and shaky heads.  The sensitivity is excellent and the ex-fast tip makes hooksets easy.  Plenty of backbone too.  After using ex-fast for these types of baits, I doubt I would go back to a standard fast action.
