Uneven line lay on BC's

Featured Replies

Hi,

What are the usual problems of uneven line lay?

I have one reel that has a little bulk (about 4 / 5 turns) on the right side of the spool.

How do i fix it?

thanx

9/10 times its from retrieving with pressure on one side.  Unspool, and reel it in with the line straight and you should be good.  there is a small chance there is an issue with the pawl or worm gear, but probably not.

When you re-spool, keep the line in middle and to the left

for two series of retrieve. Reel slowly and use your opposing

thumb to control the lay of the line. If you are already spooled

up, just walk all the line out and follow the same procedure.

Sometimes two is not enough, it's a little bit of trial and error.

By having the build-up deep in the spool, you will never notice

it when fishing.

I too am pretty anal about having an even line level and a full+

spool. I have to do this with every baitcaster I own. It's really no

big deal.

Instead of your thumb, use a crochet needle to move the line.

As said above, reel s-l-o-w and watch your line as it goes on the reel.

If you can, use a Berkley reeling station and you may have better results.

Crochet needles are cheap and you can find them in all colors at Wal-Mart.

And they are good to help remove backlashes, too.  :D
