Abu Garcia Revo SX or Record

Featured Replies

I cannot decide between these two reels.  Both are made in  Sweden which is a plus over china made.  I have never used a low profile baitcaster.  My reel i always use is a walmart brand abu garcia ambassaduer one ... it was one of the big round reels in black color.  I love the reel but want to step up to a better quality.

The SX is manufactured in Korea.

The Record is a rugged round reel meant for bigger baits, heavier line, etc. The SX is a low-profile reel and will palm easier, thus making it a comfortable reel for plastics, topwater, jerkbaits, and any other technique where you may be palming the reel.

The Records are really beautiful reels but they are very heavy.

Both are made in Sweden which is a plus over china made.

Swiss "engineered" is different than made in Sweden.

I own both an STX and a Record 50 and they are completely different reels. The Revo SX will be a lot more versatile for you than the Record. I use my record for Swimbaits and heavier lures (1.5oz+) exclusively (although it performs exceptionally well at pitching). Both are great reels and I like them both. They are just for different things.

Here is a good review of the Record http://www.tackletour.com/reviewabugarciarecord.html

My suggestion: for a wider range of uses, get the SX.

Big Baits= Record

Small Baits= Revo

Variable is up to you. As you are a Florida Guy I think maybe Record for BIG swim baits for them big bass. Me I would get the Revo, still has plenty of drag. Or just buy both.

If you're not stuck on either of them, the Abu 5600 EXT Pro is a nice compromise. It's a round reel with the features of a low-pro, and a weight that falls between the two. Butter smooth and casts like a dream.

They're currently on sale at Tackle Warehouse...

x2 on the EXT Pro, I got one recently and think it is an awesome reel.  I can cast down to 3/8 ounce easily and 1/4 with effort, I usually go to the spinning reel for anyting under 3/8 anyway.  As far as palming the reel, the ext pro is easily palmed. Good luck

x3 on the EXT Pro.  Excellent reel.  If you want low profile performance and versatility in a round reel, the EXT Pro is great.
