Best Rod & Line Setup For Casting Distance?

Featured Replies

I just picked up the new Curado and am currently looking for a good rod and line setup to match it specifically for long distance casting; search baits, etc.

Does anyone have any input on brand, length, action on the rods ...and brand, size, and type of line?  I appreciate it!

If by search lures you mean cranks, I think you'll find a glass crank rod will help to bomb lures a long way. My Tim Horton Pflueger cranking rod helps me to cover alot of water, and/or get the lure down to it's max depth for the maximum amount of time. A heavy spool reel IMO will outcast a similar reel with a small light spool.

I want to try the BPS David Fritts reel on my crankin rods as it's purposely designed with a heavier spool.

You want the rod long (>7') and the line thin.

If you are looking for cranking rods, the St. Croix Avid AVC70MM

loads up very well and will give you great distance with light and

medium weight lures. For heavy lures and especially deep runners,

the Lamiglas SR705R is THE BOMB!

If it's single hooks your asking about, soft plastics and jigs, a Medium

Heavy Power/ Fast Action rod is what you need. Most 7' rods with this

rating are going to be comparable in terms of casting distance. The Avid

AVC70MHF might be the ticket or for a little more money, G.Loomis IMX

MBR844C.

Regarding line, I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 on baitcasters.
