Loomis question

Featured Replies

I may acquire a Loomis as a gift.  I always seem to gravitate to the MBR843C GLX  7' 10 - 17 1/4 - 3/4 Fast Med-Heavy.  This seems like a very versatile all around rod.  Because I don't have a ton of cash, and cant have a rod specific for everything, would this be ok as a multipurpose rod?  Would would it not be good for?

Thanks!

Get it.   I have two of them and it IS ,imo, the best all around rod in the Loomis line-up.  Some may say the 844 Heavy but it doesn't fish flukes and as well as the 843.  You can also throw cranks, spinner baits, and worms with no problem since it is going to be your only one.

I have mine paired with a Shimano Chronarch 50mg spooled with #12 Yozuri.

IMO that's to long. I would be sacrificing alot of manueverability vs a regular old 7' rod.

i think that or the mbr783 (6.5' version) would be great choices for all around rods.

the only thing it wouldnt be great for are cranks because most use moderate or moderdate fast actions for those. but a rod with a mod action is only good for treble hook lures IMO. i use a fast rod for cranks anyways....

Sanother siteBASSER - i think its a 7' rod hes talking about. the 10 after the 7 is part of the line weight rating

HAHA. Your right.

In which case yes that is the perfect all around rod. You can toss cranks/spinnerbaits, pitch (perfect for this IMO), jigs/worms.

Hey Bassin take 843 GLX and don't look back!!! You will be happy with it.

I have 2 of them in the IMX and they get used a lot more than my 844c ever though about it.

I agree, 843.

Not so much a step down vs. a diminishing return for the $$, meaning that the IMX is ultra sensitive all by itself. What would be interesing to note is that if the weights of the rods IMX and GLX (same length/action) and how much they differ. I bet it won't be by too much

Some folks say that they cannot discern a sensitivity difference while others can.

I think the fun starts at IMX. I would buy a GL2 or GL3. :(
