Hello all. I am trying to get organized for the upcoming season.  With that brings new questions. I am currently using Yo-Zuri Hybrid on all of my setups. I love the line and highly recommend it to all. With that said am I missing out by not using braid for certain applications? If so, which situations? Which brand/lb test do you recommend? Not sure if this matters but I primarily fish a semi clear body of water (visibility 3-6 feet). Thanks.

I use 15# braid, but that works for my circumstances, maybe it's not the right size for you.

Braid is very strong, has little or no stretch, and is incredibly abrasion-resistant to wood and vegetation. Try it if these things are important to you. I fish mostly weedy water and it's that abrasion resistance that has such great appeal. Too often my mono was intermittently frayed the full length of a cast.

Braid can wrap around the rod tip and get incredibly tangled around hooks and other places, but the advantages greatly outweigh the minuses for me.

One of the best features of baids is the zero memory. When you make the first cast of the day and have some slack, you don't have a slinky toy laying on the water. It is not affected by line twist like monos are.

You can have a line that is the diameter of 10# mono but has a breaking strength of 50#.

Advantages & Applications:

-Small diameter and high break strength

-Virtually zero stretch and line memory

-Flipping/pitching into heavy vegetaition

-Skipping under docks with sharp edges

-Main line for a Carolina rig

Disadvantages

-Can rip most treble hook baits out of the fish's mouth

-Rocks chew it up pretty quickly

-Higher visibility in the water (Can be "remedied" with a flouro leader)

Thats all i can think of right now. I'm sure other will add some.

Obviously braid has the advantage of having no stretch and much stronger per diameter size than mono.

I only use braid in one situation--thick weeds. IMO, it far outperforms other types of line when you are trying to get a fish out of thick weeds or pads. The thin diameter of the line cuts straight through vegetation and the increased strength makes it much easier to keep control of the fish.

I only use braid.  10# freshwater, 15# inshore and 20# offshore.

For the way I fish, these lines fit me well.

BTW , Fuji does make a no tangle tip, they work beautifully.

braid very visible on the surface for line watching. Braid floats more on top with a slower sink rate. Braid much more sensitive and with no stretch you need to set your drag in accord. In semi stained water Im using fluro invisible leader with braid at least 8' for me .  8-)  

my set up/applications.  Powell 7'mh/xf/revo stx 30# power pro braid w/ 8# Seaguar inviz leader for T rigs jigs C rigs.  Powell ml/f /symetre 2500 15# power pro with 6# leader. Lighter jigs t rigs c rigs shaky heads  8-)

Offhand no.  I have seen it on my friends rod and I know he bought at BPS in Dania Fl.  I do not know if was an aftermarket add on or if it came on the rod.  This was one of their own top of line inshore rods, like med rod 8-17 line rating.  Not only was I impressed with rod, the tip worked like a sensation.
