I'm new to cleaning my own reels and I was wondering if someone could  give me a heads up on what to do.

like what you do with the reel oil, the grease and the lube.

Nature boy is 100% correct.

Make sure if you really start to get into it you take the reel apart in a clean space, preferably inside a box so when the inevitable part is dropped or spring goes flying, you can find it. Make notes of how it came apart and reverse procedure to re-assemble. DO NOT OVER OIL.

Clean all gunk off spool shaft and shims at both sides of spool shaft prior to re-assemble. I always take apart my new reels also to be sure they are lubed properly. Cleaning grease from the bearings or adding a drop of oil to dry bearings will turn a reel you might think is a dud into a great performer. Check if there is some grease on gears also. Could eliminate squeaking. More often then not, this could save you a trip to the store to return it. Can't overcome just a plain old dud though.
