Glue for a cork rod butt

Recommended Posts

I just got a St Croix rod and didn't have it for a day before I closed the van trunk on the butt of the handle.  The impact sliced into the cork and a small sliver is ready to break off now.  I want to glue it rather than pull it off.  It didn't hurt the rod other than cosmetically...   I don't want to just pick any glue and have it ruin the cork by expanding or disintegrating it...

Any glue recommendations?

I used automotive RTV sealant to repair a damaged cork handle on an old Berkely rod of mine.

That was over a year ago and I have not noticed any affect at all, other than I used gray colored sealant. The repair is pliable and weatherproof.

By the way, RTV is available in clear if cosmetics are a concern for you.

Why not contact St. Croix and see what they may do for you ?

epoxy and clean the excess with denatured alcohol.

2x.

Another option could use Titebond III.  Pull off the piece and/or slop the the glue all over the hole and the piece and put back together.  Wipe off the excess then wrap with wax paper and tape up to hold in place.
