New approach on casting

Featured Replies

I was fishing out of the back of the boat and had a situation where

being able to execute a left handed side-arm cast would have been

gold. Any right handers cast both left and right handed? Any opinions

or tips?

I can, but it took some time to learn the other way. I am glad I can now. It isn't a bad thing to know how to comfortably fish both ways.

Pitching is pretty much the same, but I am a little slower. For regular casts, I will sometimes have my right hand assist to lessen fatigue of my weaker left hand and to provide a little more stability. So an occassional two handed cast when left handed casting.

Sort of.  I have this two handed backhand cast that works for me. :(

That's usually what I do...but it increases my overrun % drastically

backcasting works great.

if you can cast sidearm righthanded and overhand righthanded, you should easily be able to overhand cast on the left side of your head...sort of across the left shoulder...learning to extend that movement downward to a sidearm backcast is not usually that hard.

with a little patience, you'll be tagging the neighbor's cat at 50 paces.

I need a picture or something, because I can't see how this is an issue at all.

Are you saying you can't cast where you want because you can only side arm, and the port side of the boat is facing your target?

If that's the case, you really need to learn how cast over head, or pitch for distance.

If it helps, learn to do ALL of your casts (besides flipping and pitching) using both hands.

I couldnt use the right handed side arm or I would have killed my buddy lol. Couldnt get an overhead close enough due to overhanging trees. To top it off we were too far out to pitch. I eventually did an improvised backcast that worked well enough.
