it's great with all lures as long as you know how to use a baitcaster.the small light spool and dual braking system are awesome.

Go with the LP version for light lures.

Exactly what do you mean by "light lures"?

A few weeks ago I bought the WLP, and almost immediately switched it out for the LP.  had a chance to go out with it yesterday, which was fairly windy, and it preformed beautifully with light baits into the wind, cross wind, and any other way I wanted to cast.  I was more than impressed with the braking system.

so would go with the wlp for flipping and c-rigging???

I have a 64WLP and have no problems launching a 1/4 oz crankbait over 100' with a side-arm cast. This is why I asked what the OP considers a "light lure".

To many folks, a 7" worm on a 3/0 EWG hook with a 1/8 oz bullet weight is "light" when in reality, it weighs in at approximately 3/8 oz. Not heavy by any means, but not what I'd consider light either.

what i was considering light was exactly what you said... a 1/8 sinker, 3/0 hook and a finessee worm...

i typed in patriarch in the search and read all the articles that had that word in it.

I only use mine for shallow cranks and 'traps, so I've never even tried casting soft plastics with it. But, if it can fling a 1/4 oz Fat Free Fry over 100', it ought to be able cast well beyond that with that worm/hook/weight combo.

Was my concern with light bait casting unfounded?  I was second guessing myself without actually taking the WLP out for a spin.  I should have really researched this part before ordering to begin with.  

I've never used the LP, so I can't really compare the two, but I have no problem with my WLP. I know I'll probably never need the extra 60 yds of line, but I like having the option.

I also found the WLP's extra width slightly more comfortable in the hand. I'm in the market for another BC for soft plastics, and will probably wind up with another Patriarch WLP, Summit WLP, or President WLP.

then you get guys like me who prefer the narrow spool.it's also .4 oz lighter than the wlp.

I know that cart has commented on the ability of the patriarch to cast light baits many times so have I and yes, it casts light baits very well. I have 2 of the LP and my 64lp can cast 1/4 oz baits very well and effectively.

As for the difference in the two spools, it's not very noticeable, to me anyway. I originally bought a 64LP and 64WLP at once. I sold the WLP and bought a 71LP but have recently found myself wanting a WLP...not sure why. I have small hands and the LP is wonderful but still kinda want a WLP. Regardless, both reels are top notch.
