Magforce Z problems

Featured Replies

I'm using a fuego and the thing backlashes like nothing I've ever seen. I tried a strategy of a looser cast control knob with a higher (like 5-7) brake setting. This makes things better, but even then it still backlashes. These overruns aren't small. When it goes, it REALLY goes. It's like all braking force just goes away. Again, the strategy I've tried really made a difference; but is this braking system some insane genious, esoteric contraption, or is this just the way it is, or could have some problem?

Are you getting the backlash on the start of the cast or more towards the end?

How heavy of a lure are you you attempting to cast?

If you have the cast control set very light you may want to tighten it some to help.

Got the same problem here....my solution? Bigger baits...

I dedicated the reel to a jig rod, pitching baits....So far i love it.With an upgraded drag that came with it i decided it was best for slop and all that nasty mess.

Anything 3/8oz or under i got problems....the spool spins a little faster than i can control it. Ain't necessary a bad thing.guess i need a little practice and patience as well.

Planning on upgrading the bearings sometimes.

I've been going 1/4 oz. to 5/8 oz. 1/2 o and up are better, but it still happens. I used to have a Rick Clunn reel with magnetic braking and a Sol. With those I never had to set braking above "3." With the Fuego it would only really work consistently from 5 up. It's different, but is this difference in the needed settings normal for this reel, or an indication of a problem?

Mine was easy to backlash, too, until I got the hang of it. I set my spool tension knob so the lure drops slowly without any jiggle of the rod tip. Then I arbitrarily set the brake to the 1/2 way mark. From there, I fine tune the brake. The reel will cast 1/4 on up as well as any reel I've used.

I think you have your spool tension knob set too loose.

My biggest and only striper was caught throwing a superfluke jr. on a 1/8oz jighead with that reel and the 6'9" 1/4-3/4 carrot stick. It can be done its just not an easy task.

I agree with Micro. I'll bet the cast control on all of the reels having problems with that braking system, have the cast control turned loose enough to hear a ticking sound when in free spool and trying to move the spool laterally. Sounds like guessing at the proper setups.

The brakes and the cast control setting work together, but the cast control setting is probably the most important to start with...

I have never had a problem setting up any of the mag breaking system's on any of the brands I service..

Tight Lines All!!!
