My dad mentioned to me that he wanted to get a nice two piece casting rod so he could take it when he traveled.  I cautioned him and said he might just want to get a nice one piece and continue using the less than stellar two piece rods he's already got since he doesn't travel much to fish anyway.  I've always heard that you sacrifice power and sensitivity for a two piece, but never really known how much.  So my question to you all is how much of a difference is there when fishing a two piece?  Is it noticeable or something that has been exaggerated?  Thanks

Two piece rods have improved alot over the last decade.  Depending on the exact rod, most factories are capable of making a 2-piece blank with nearly the same sensitivity as a 1-piece.  The slower & lighter a rod is, the more it will be changed in a 2-piece version due to the additional weight & the flat spot in the action.

Is there a difference?  Yes.  But if you take most any current $100 rod series, rigged up a 6'6" MH spinning rod in both 2-pc & 1-pc with the same reel/line/lure and handed them one at a time to a blindfolded fisherman...  they likely won't be able to detect any difference at all.

Technically speaking:

Will a 2 piece be less sensitive than a 1 piece ? yes, at the joint you 'll have twice the material and the lack of continouity of the fibers, it 's a joint.

But, many of the things said and learned were said and found back during the age of the dinosaurs when two piece rods had metal ferrules, which is no longer the case of modern fishing rods, modern two piece rods do not have metal ferrules and the pieces are joined by friction joints ( spigots ) which make a much better contact of the material so vibration transmitting properties are not lost as much as with metal joints.

Of course, the better quality you purchase the better the rod will be, I 've got a two piece spinning 6' ML GraphiteLeader Bosco and in the sensitive department makes my GL2s run for their life, in the weight looks department leaves them stone cold dead and it cost a few more dollars than the GL2.

they're just fine....and more convienient to say the least,

sure there may be some trade-offs, but hey.... i catch plenty of fish with plenty of sensitivity....

but then again....im no pro......

I use the BPS Bionic Blade rods and I think they are really good 2 piece rods, they are just shy off $100.  I use them for both my baitcaster and my spinning reel.

If it were me I would get a GraphiteLeader Bosco ( around $130 ) or a Veloce ( around $230 )in 6 '6" MH power, but that 's me, I don 't mind ordering it to Japan.  

yeah ive tried both and i dont notice a big difference in the 2 and a two piece is much more convenient for travel

I only use 2 piece rods for ease of transport and think the rods I'm using are very sensitive but again I'm biased cause I'm only using 2 piece rods.

The Cabelas XML and XMLti when they are regular priced are in the price range you mentioned. Now they are both on sale with the XML being under $80 and the XMLTi being under $120.

I finally got some fish on my 2 pc 7'6" clarus spinnin rig today, even though the biggest fish was about 1 1/2-2 lbs..and were caught on a t rig worm..I could tell the sensitivity wasn't as good as in my 1 pc. rods, and it's more parabolic...stil is fun landin them though.
