Curado or Citica

Featured Replies

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a new citica because I want to add another 6.3:1  to my arsenal. I ordered two curados a month ago and I absolutely love them. How do citicas compare quality wise to curados?

The biggest difference is the knobs on the handle are smaller.

It feels so weird to go from one to another.

Other than the knob issue I cant tell any major differences.

The curado is some what smother, but it is minor.

I will be buying another citica rather than one more curado.

There not that bad. To me.

I have 5 new curados, so I might know something about it.

IMO, the Citica is good for throwing bladed swim jigs or spinnerbaits.  The Curado excels for worms, jigs, etc.

Please explain is it because of the option of the higher gear ratio and the larger handle size? I'm looking at possibly adding a reel to my new carrot stix coming that I'm going to use for jigging and pitching.

I have owned both (Curado 100DSV and Citica 200D).  The Curado was well worth the extra $$$.  THe Curado 100 is a great light lure baitcaster.  The Citica seemed more "Heavy Duty".

Wait, so you want a new reel that is 6.3:1? Then that is an easy decision: the Citica is a 6.2:1 and the Curados are only offered in 5.0:1 and 7.0:1

There are still tons of new Curado D's out there that are 6.?.1

true. I don't know why but I didn't even think about the possibility of buying older models.

The curado is better in mutiple ways. It has a magnumlite spool than the citica which just has a low mass spool. This makes the curado easier to cast lighter baits farther. It has more bearings, making it smoother, not very noticible but somewhat. It has bigger grips, better for swimbaits, cranks, etc, it has a titanium levelwind, the citica only has ceramic. those are the biggest differences between them.

The Curado are much much more smoother than the Citica in my opinion. It just feels different.

No, just that the Curado is a bit more 'free' than the Citica.  If you're pitching jigs, the Curado shines.  That isn't to say that the Citica isn't capable of performing such tasks, but IMO when dealing with lighter baits, the Curado shines.

Sorry, looking at it now my post wasn't clear. I know that curados aren't offered in 6.3:1, I'm not trying to choose between a curado and a citica, I was just wondering how citicas compare to curados quality wise. If citicas aren't on the same level as far as quality, then I will get a higher end 6.3:1 reel.

Also to clarify, I'm interested in a comparison between the 2009 model curados and citicas. I should have mentioned that.

In terms of quality, they're the same reel internally.  Different spool, different handle, an extra bearing or two.

I own both the Curado and Citica 200e reels. The Curado is somewhat smoother on the retrieve.

Spools are different but I can not tell any difference in casting. The spool on the Curado weighs 13.8 grams and the Citica 14.8 grams.

Load them both with 14 # mono and the Curado spool weights 24.2 grams and the Citica one gram more. Difference is negligible.

Neither reel casts light baits as well as my 50 MGs. A 50 MG spool weighs only 1.5 grams less than the Curado spool yet filled with 14 # mono weighs 17.7 grams.
