just when you think you got 'em all, here comes another danged rapala.  ;)

seriously considered claiming finland on my w-2 one year.  ::)

I bought a half dozen or so of both sizes.  Can't wait to try them.

I especially like the finish - transparent with the reflective material inside.   Some of my regular X-Raps have been chewed up by pickerel and feel like sandpaper.  But they just keep shining.

I have a couple of these, but I haven't got them wet yet.

Based on their action, are they more effective as a crankbait or as a jerkbait?

  • Super User

It seems they are sort of a hybrid.  But since the name is X-Rap, seems to me the intent is that you fish them like a jerkbait or slashbait.

To me, they look like a deep running version of the standard X-Rap. I've tried the deep X-Raps ("Deep Down"), but I don't get the same action as the regular shallow running X-Raps. So I'm encouraged with this new design; hopefully it will be an improvement on their "Deep Down" regular version?

I agree, the x-rap deep doesn't have the same action as the shallow model but the x-rap shad doesn't look anything like the x-rap and besides that it's a floater and not a suspender like the x-rap.

the xrap shad suspends too....all of the xraps suspend.

i just got one of the smaller sizes in olive green color and it looks amazing. i cant wait to try this out. trig, how come yours doesnt have a dressed treble? did you take it off?

  • Super User

Mine floats. ;)

Yes, I changed the trebles and split rings. I only use feather trebles on topwater baits.

  • Super User

thats weird. does it have a fast float or does it slowly rise to the surface. cuz ive had baits that slowly ease up before that were supposed to suspend. maybe it has to do with the water temp? arent baits that suspend supposed to be used in a certain temp that will make them suspend the best?

  • Super User

It must be the water temp. It's in the low 40s.

I just found a bait in one of my boxes that I long forgot about.

Jackall RS-225. Sure looks similar.
