Mr. Yo-Zuri Tries Braid

Well now, I fished Spiderwire years ago and learned all about the

"issues" with braid. However, a Fish Chris post on sensitivity has

piqued my interest in giving braid another try. This time I'm focused

on my jig rig only. 50/12 Power Pro with #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid leader.

8-)

I use to love Power Pro till Wayne P. introduced me to Daiwa Samurai braid.  Now I will not even consider using Power Pro anymore.  The Samurai braid is so smooth and is just outstanding.  I use it in 55lbs, but don't have a need for a leader since the water I mainly fish is stained.  Unfortunately they do not offer it in 50lbs.

Later, :o

I've been a strict PowerPro user for years. However, I recently got a reel off eBay that came spooled with McCoy "Mean Green" Braid. Seems smaller and rounder than PP and I think I love it! A new TW order is shipping my way today. By the end of the year, I expect to have all my lines changed to McCoy and this fancy Yo-Zuri stuff I kept hearing about and finally tried.

I recently just changed to braid on my drop shot rig (G Loomis DSR822S & Pflueger Supreme 6035), which used to have a just have flouro.  All I can say is that that the increase in sensitivity is unreal.  I wish I switched years ago.

Ditch the leader, unless you are fishing chunk rocks, concrete structure, or steel dock pilings. Zebra and/os Quagga mussels dictate a leader as well.

I also think your leader should be a proper fluoro leader material, like CFX or Gamma leader. Less stretch, sinks like a rock, and tough as steel, abrasion wise.

I actually use 40 or 50# fluoro leader for Northern Pike fishing. For bass, 8 to 20# is fine.

An Improved Allbright knot has been the best knot so far, especially with jarring hooksets in heavy weeds.

You may want to look into the newer 8-strand braids, like Samurai or Fireline Braid (not fused). When I finally run out of Power Pro (sometime around 2025, I predict, LOL) I'll be trying these.

Gotta have a leader to break-off.

The Yo-Zuri (Smoke) is a perfect match with stained water.

I don't have any opinion on Power Pro, I really bought it

because it matches up nicely with my BCR854 and new

Curado. It's "pretty!"

Chris Fish uses a Blood Knot, so I'm just following his lead.

Maybe I'll try another brand if I buy some more, but this is a

giant leap for me. When I was fishing Spiderwire before, I had

just started chasing stripers on the Tennessee River. Braid is

EXTREMELY dangerous for that type of fishing. I have stayed

clear since.
