I'm a newbie so this may be a dumb question.  a lot of days after work i will hit some fishing holes on the way home   so i carry a couple spinning rod set ups  with me  at work in my car with the windows rolled up ,will the hot temps inside the car damage my rods i have them inside a couple heavy cardboard tubes so the wont get damaged by everything else in the car but what about the high temps? thanks.

Not sure about the rods themselves.. I would assume not if they are graphite or fiberglass. It will damage plastics though I know that for sure.  Not sure about line, I would assume it could have adverse effects but have nothing to back that.

If u spray ur line and rod with KVD line and lure u shouldnt have probs .But think about this a car with windows closed can get 140 degrees or more i think a week of this can prob damage epoxy under ur cork and who knows what else .this kinda testing i dont do LOL

I wouldnt recommend that with any rod you truly care about. Just like you wouldnt throw a rod into an oven.  If its a cheapy just count it as the cost of admition  and run it till she breaks.

    I think the only thing it will damage is your line.

    Your rods should be okay.

I worry about my gear when I leave them in the garage on very hot days. That is why I always try to bring them in the house after each fishing trip.

Although i doubt it will damage the rod i never leave mine in any kind of heat. I mean, we carry the rods/reels on the deck of our boats for 10-12hrs per fishing trip don't we!?! I know it will damage/weaken line though!

Per Jason Bruner, blank designer for St Croix rods (this was in RodMaker magazine last issue), regarding rod storage:

"...keep rods in areas that are well under the 180 degree (F) range and don't leave rods subjected to severe deflection for long periods."

He basically went on to say in the article that rods can change memory - like a being bent - if under strain and subjected to temps over 180 degrees F. He said it was subject to temp and humidity combinations and applied to both carbon and glass rods.

To me, this would include storing your rods in a manner where they had a bend... like in a rod locker where they could sag. Not sure how hot it gets in a rod locker though.

Ummmm, I have kept a custom G. Loomis 6' in my vehicles well over 5 years now in the S. Florida Sun,  never know when a fishing chance will occur.

ZERO ISSUES WITH THE ROD, and it gets HOT down here.  Now the line is different case all together, so I keep braid on the reel.  Over the years I have landed anything from bass to peacocks to snook, without an issue.

Now my other rods I keep in pool house, cause they are spoiled  , but if you don't have a good reason to leave the rods in your vehicle why take the chance.

i was told that the ferrule glue used to secure the tip-top guide is a hot-melt wax and that, at very high temperatures, will get soft and you may get some movement/rotation of the tip-top if it is leaning against something.
