big plastics for cold water?

Featured Replies

i am gonna try something new this winter in an effort to put a big fish in the boat, but i thought i'd run it by y'all first.  i would be interested to know if anyone out there has had any success at all (particularly with lunkers) fishing BIG (10"+) t-rigged plastics in 35-45 degree water.   typically for me this has always been the domain of ol' reliable - the jig.  i have had success with plastics before, but they have always been tubes or creature baits in the 4-6" variety.  anxious to hear.  thanks.

Maybe you will be the first on the forums to try the megabass monster crawler!

I've got some 15 and 16 inch worms and a 12 inch lizard that I fish a little bit in cold water. I haven't got them bit except in the warmer months, but I tend to either swimbait or dropshot in the winter, so they haven't been thrown much.

Well, I don't think this reply really addresses the question, but I will throw it out anyhow:

I have had some success using the Sweet Beaver Double Wide as a trailer on a 1/2 oz jig. However, Uncle Josh Pork seems to be more productive in cold water.

Not exactly 10" but pretty bulky. A Zoom Brush Hog pitched to laydowns. ;)
