St. Croix Avid or G Loomis IMX

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy my first nice all purpose rod I would like a 6'6" or  7' m f. I am looking at the Avid or IMX, is the IMX worth the extra $60.00?

Depends on what you are using the rod for. I have a few, so here's

my take:

For all techniques with "moving lures" the Avids are the better value.

For jigs and soft plastics, G. Loomis IMX hands down!

Specific suggestion: G. Loomis IMX MBR844C first. Your next rod

should be an Avid AVC66MF.

If you are talking spinning tackle: G.Loomis IMX SJR783 or 843

Otherwise, Avid AVS68MXF.

You need better sensitivity ? ----> go for an IMX

Is it worth the extra $60 ? every penny.

I vote IMX also. However if Gary Loomis is really back in the biz with another company, well if anyone can make a better rod it be him, but until that time IMX get's my vote.

Thanks for the input, I just bought a used MBR782C IMX from a member here. This will be my light weight plastic and top water stick. Now I need a new reel, im thinking about the Curado, Revo ST or the Patriarch.

You should be able to find a new Curado 200 E7 for around $150.

Here is the thread currently running a few lines down:
