Castaway rods

Recommended Posts

Anyone have experience with this brand?  Just found out today that prior military / military get a 25% discount on all rods.  As I'm in the market for a new flipping rod I may take advantage of this if they have positive feedback.

I don't think you'll see many boats in texas without at least one on the deck, or so I have heard.  I have a 7'6''H Big Show Flipping Stick, Terry Scroggind Sig., and I like it alright, great rod, light and tough, I just haven't had a chance to fish it much this year due to work.  A quality rod, I got it on sale at TW for $100 right before christmas.

I just got one here last week at the local PX and tried it over the 4th of July weekend.  I'm not a fishing guru of any sort or even all that experienced but it seemed like a nice rod to me.

The CastAway blanks are pretty good for the money. I can't speak to the factory versions.

I've had success out of the HG40s and the XP3s both. They use a multimodulus layup to create a lightweight and durable rod.

Are they high end? No. But IMO you could spend that same amount of money in worse places pretty easily.

I know Swampland Tackle ran out of the Big Show blanks pretty fast. Proved popular among custom builders.

How do you prove that you are prior service, I may have to start picking these rods up. I heard they are pretty popular on the gulf.

This is the only brand my Brother-in-Law will fish he loves them particularly the older ones.  The same man who started ALL Star rods built Castaway hence the older ones or the pro-sport series feel the same.  Good rods for the money and they seem to be very durable built with quality stuff.  Oh yeah Kistler rods is owned by his son I dont think you will be disappointed with them the actions seem to be alittle lighter on the newer ones a med feels more like a med lite etc...Semper Fi
