Two quick braid questions for ya. I have 20lb braid spooled on a rod made for 10-12lb test line. Should I set the drag like

6 lb line

20lb line

or the 10-12 lb rod rating?

The other question is that should my drag be peeling off line during the hookset?

if using treble hooked lures you want less drag pressure say around 3-4 lbs and yes it will slip on a hookset.if using t rigs or jigs you want more drag pressure say around 8 lbs with your rod.make sure you used electrical tape or mono for backing otherwise the line will slip on the spool and you will think your drag is slipping.

+2   Braid does not stretch, at all.  Changing from mono to braid, you have to use a less violent hook set, if not, you may break your rod.

Absolutely not!!! A little slippage on the hookset, that's fine. But peeling off? If you literally mean peeling off, then that means the force created by the hookset is being used to pull the line off rather than to drive the hook into the fish.

Changing from mono to braid, you have to use a less violent hook set, if not, you may break your rod.

I disagree. You don't need as violent of a hook set to grant the same effect, but you should still try to rip off lips. Toning down your hook set is silly imo and creates bad habbits.

you do not need a bill dance set with braid and good hooks.you do need a firm hookset.i've seen many a rod explode from gorilla sets with braid.there is no need to set that hard.you are not trying to overcome 10 feet of line stretch.setting that hard with braid will also open bigger holes where the hook went in and you may lose fish due to this.

First thing you need to determine is the max drag the reel has.  Second you need to make sure that the nax drag capability of the reel does not exceed that of the rod.  From there I just set it depending on the situation.
