Jig and a trailer?

Featured Replies

i have been reading a lot about jigs and already have a few, but was wondering is it necessary to have a trailer to get the most out of a jig? If anyone has a link to basspro.com for the correct type of trailer please tell me. thanks!

Using a Jig without a trailer IMO is like using a spinnerbait without a skirt. For trailers I like Netbait Paca Chunks, Yum Chunks, Zoom Super Chunks, and GYCB Hula Grubs (for when I plan to fish it a little quicker). Also match the color of the trailer to the color of the jig.

Does any body here know if the sponsors and free gimmicks are ligit and are they worth it like the free rapala fishing kit

I think they're made to be fished with trailers to begin with.  I also think they can catch fish w/o trailer if you fish it differently like let's say a bucktail jig.  You can see huge differences in how the look and move in water compared to other skirted lures like the bucktail jig.  I'd try that lure if you don't want to use a trailer or you can try fishing the bass jig like one.

There really is no correct trailer.  You can use any plastic/pork trailer you want.  Trailers that have two legs, paddles, tails, etc are the ones mostly used and they're supposed to imitate crayfish.  Try rigging them with a lizard instead as something new.  This year I'm going take my bass jig and rig a senko style worm wacky style.  The idea in my head feels so exciting.

I think this video is better.  More footage of the lure.

try  verticallures.com  they have some of the best jig and jig components on the market

Any jig with the new Rage Tail chunk or craw as trailer is unbeatable

Not only is there no really correct trailer, but I've also had a great deal of success using a 2 or 3 inch grub as a trailer on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig. As for color, I've gone both ways, matching and contrast and both work.

I just watched the dough Hannon's video and I was kind of shocked that he uses a spinning outfit.  Never gave it much thought, but I can see where the jig would drop straight down rather then being slightly pulled towards you as it falls with a baitcasting reel. Anyone using this technique ?
