Berkley Fireline Tracer Braid

Recommended Posts

After reading some good things about Fireline on the forum I went to BPS and spent a bit over $35 for a spool of the 50 lb Berkley Fireline tracer braid.  I spooled it on my Curado 200E7  which I have on a Carrot Stick rod.  I casts real smooth but I hate the sound it makes on the rod guides during retrieve -- like dragging rough thread through the guides.  It may be a fatal flaw for me.  I'm not sure how long I can put up with the sound before it's back to YoZuri Hybrid.  Has anyone else had this issue with braid?

The Tracer Braid is the newer 8 strand weave which is quieter going thru the guides than the old style 6 strand weave like Power Pro and Suffix. All braids make that sound to some degree and it is more pronounced with the recoil guides than the insert guides. Get used to it and you will be happy, most everybody else is.

Making that sound as you reel in a hawg is very pleasant, LOL

That sound has been present even before monofilament line was invented. It indicates that the right equipment with the right presentation was used at the right place at the right time.

The sound at first will make you go 0.o

Hehe, you will get used to it. Just go out in the yard and cast around with it and by the time your done you'll think nothing of it.

The guides on the carrot stix are loud when using braid.  I don't want this to turn into a bash carrot stix thread, but this is something I observed with the ones that I owned.  My Powell, Falcon, Kistler and Dobyns rods are not nearly as loud.  When using most of my rods I barely notice the noise.

I agree all braids pretty much make that sound and thought I was tearing up my equipment as well but once I got used to the sound I don't even notice it anymore.

I use Cabelas XML riods primarily and have been using the new Berkley Fireline Braid and barely even notice the sound now.

The next time I hear my braid snaking through the spinning guides, will be my first time.

When I'm busy fishing, it takes more noise than that to break my concentration.

For instance, I have a Stradic spinning reel that my wife and I dubbed the "radio reel".

Whenever you crank the reel handle, it sounds like a Mike Rowe narration ;D

Try spraying the line with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner.

Count me in as another who loves the sound of braided line and recoil guides on the BCR GLX rods.  I've had them since they were first introduced and NEVER had a problem with the sweet, sweet sound they make - especially when reeling in a big fish!!

Well, I couldn't last an entire week with the braid on my Carrot Stick.  I took off the Fireline Tracer Braid and spooled back up with YoZuri 15 lb Hybrid.  There were several reasons.  First, the sound still gets to me.  Second, there is that little spray of water off the reel when you cast.  The braid appears to soak up more water.  Thirdly, when I'm using my spinner bait it seems to foul the spinners more frequently.  Fourthly, I don't like the way it cuts with scissors or nail clipper when I'm changing lures.  Finally, the color seems to be fading after less than a week of regular use (I've been fishing every day).

I do still have braid on my spinning rod (not Fireline) and I really like the fact that there's no looping problems at all.  I even tried the ultimate test this evening and put a drop shot rig at the end of it.  In fairness I did use a barrel swivel and a Hybrid leader.

I think I've found the right use for braid and it's not as a casting line.
