Finally ordered myself a casting combo. I got it in 7 foot MH. I also ordered a spro frog in the natural color and my question is, should this rod be enough to fish that frog in some heavy stuff? I know it wont be the best. I ordered it in 7' MH, just so I could get in these thick weeds around here. My cheapy spinning setup just doubles over in the stuff. Any recommendations on line? I'm assuming braind, but dang its expensive.

Throw on some mono backing. It will fight slippage and save you money by using less braid.

when you put the mono backing, about how much do you put?

Depends on how much braid you want on your spool. I would think 80-100 yards of braid would be plenty. Put the different on in mono. If you want a full spool of braid, it is still important that you put a layer or two of mono on to prevent slipping of the braid. You could always have a tackle shop put it on for you that way you will know how many yards of each is on the spool.

Your combo will work just fine. You need braid or high test mono for jungle fishing. As for backing, I never bother. Just tie an arbor knot to the spool and pack it tight.

glad to hear the combo will do fine with frogs, Now I just wish the frog wasn't on backorder!

You can find a few frogs that you can rig weightless that work just as good as a spro.

I'd probably go ahead and use braid. Keep in mind if and when it fades you can just pull it off cut it fromthe backing and reverse the braid. Wala! brand new line. This is assuming you have enough braid left of course.

Re: frogs my Walmart sells them but not all do and any local bait shop should as well. You should have more than one anyway so go pick up a couple and start fishing. If no frogs try a buzzbait or a popper or floater of some sort.

What type of braid are planning on using? I had a buddy that used Stren Super Braid for a few years on an extreme with no ill effects.  He switched to power pro and it chewed the Fuji Hardloys on the extreme up.

I never thought about braid chewing through the guides, but it did happen to my buddy. I guess the only way to avoid that is to use a heavy mono/flouro instead?

I use either backing, which is secured to the spool with electrical tape, or just the electrical tape and tie to it and have never had slippage problems.

well back to the braid question. Will running braid on this rod, which has aluminum oxide guides chew them up? Or is that an isolated case with Power Pro as BigRickRolled mentioned.

I use power pro on my bps woo daves rods. I have 2 of em and one has 15 pound power pro and the other has 50 pound power pro goin thru it and no problems with the guides so far. I'll check from time to time tho out of paranoia I guess. Also keep in mind that even tho braid is expensive, you only need 75-85 yards or so on your reel so you can do 3-4 reels with one 300 yard spool. Plus it lasts alot longer then other types of line and performs much better esp in grass and heavy cover so the value is there.
