What's that clickin' noise?

Featured Replies

So I have a Quantum Energy 30PTi-A that has been a great reel this year.  Until recently I have had no problems but the last trip out it started making a clicking sound on the initial retrieve after the cast.  It clicks maybe 3-4 times in 1-2 handle turns and stops.  It's only on the initial cranks after I close the bail, almost sounds like the drag but it happens no matter how the drag is set.  I also switched switched spools to see it that was it but it does it with both spools.  It doesn't happen everytime, I'd say once out of every 6-10 casts.  Any idea of what it is or what's going on?  Anyone else had this trouble?

i had that happen as well with a saros of mine,

except mine constantly clicked without ever going away.

as for the problem, i dont know???

it was warrantied by sports authority still, and i took it back (although it did not seem to effect the reels abilities any)....

after the associate heard the noise, he just swapped it out for me.

I had a reel where the bailer didn't fully close on occasion and it would make that, or atleast a similar noise. But by the way it sounds you may not be having the same issue as me.

BigRickRolled,

The sound is the bail kick lever hitting the ramp on the frame.

The bail return kick lever (a rod under the cover) is not returning to it's proper place after the bail kicks over. It is supposed to move freely in and out. I'll bet there is grease that is getting sticky and old. Easy fix.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

I took it apart and I think that's it...thanks...much appreciated

are you flipping the bail over by hand or are you cranking the handle? It is better to flip the bail over manually less stress on the bail spring and less line twist.
