Wal Mart close outs...falling prices

Featured Replies

I picked up a couple of their Quantum Tournament Series baitcasting combos today after watching the price fall from $74 to $59 to $35 over the past two weeks. Started to buy one at $59 last week, but didn't and when I went back today were $35.

Look to be pretty decent baitcasters for the price. Rod has cork handles, Fuji guides, one piece IM8 composite 6'6" MH. Reel is 4 bearing 6.2:1 retrieve, brass gears, magnetic cast control, etc.

Also picked up some Trilene XL marked down to $5 a pack.

Think I am done with the hardware purchasing for a while, now just need more time to fish!

Thought some of you might be interested in looking at your WM's for closeout prices on stuff like this if your WM carries fishing stuff and isn't a "lake region" WM.

I had a quantum combo way back in the day when i was like 12.  They do the trick performance wise, but as far as dependability thats a different story...

If you're happy then that's great.  So....they might not be the best in the world, but for $35 they're worth that for sure.

Quantum has always been my favorite brand. I love the rods and the reels. Still throw my old 1310 reel (ugliest reel ever) nearly everyday!

I bought a cheap Wal-Mart Quantum combo years ago. The reel worked great...for about one season.  ;)

The IM8 rod is a pretty nice little multi-purpose rod that I still use often.

These walmart deals are not the same everywhere.

No, they are not. My local WM still has them listed at $74. The store 45 miles away has them for $35. Sports dept mgr at local WM told me it was because they were considered a "lake region" store and their discounts, if any, would come much later.

wal marts here dont even carry quantum stuff.

or any real bass stuff for that matter....just cheap stuff.

i almost died the other day when i saw some paca craws there. hahha.

oh and btw.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with quantum. i own 7 from the tour edition to the kvd model and all are reliable fantastic reels.

every reel maker has a budget line and they all mostly suck. dont knock the Q.

;D

Sounds to me like you picked yourself up a pretty good combo.

The Wally Worlds around here are useless as far as fishing gear goes ;)

i agree. any gear you pay $35 for that lasts a season has done its job.

Where I live at I have about 7 Walmarts to choose from and very rarely I'll find a gem hidden amongst what they sell.  It ain't no diamond, but it ain't always a lump of coal either. ;D
