Split Grip Crankbait rods under $100?

Featured Replies

Im in the market for a new 6'6" crankbait rod. I will be using for cranks mostly but will use it for other stuff that I cant throw on a MH/XF. I posted a similar thread asking what people thought about the 6"6" M Falcon BuCoo rod (I would still like some input on these rods). Havent gotten many helpful answers. So which split grip rods under $100 are the best for cranks/general? Thanks in advance!

p.s. if you check out this post please leave your thoughts. Thanks!

the guy i fish with says that he loves the new skeet reese rods. they are split grip and super light.  around $100. also another guy i know likes the upper end ike rods from daiwa.  also around 100 bucks.  i use an old bps gs.... but im about to upgrade myself and i think imma either get a skeet reese or a shimano compre.

Go buy the FALCON!

I said in your other post that it would be a noodle

compared to your ABU...... is it?

Its a real nice rod, and will serve you well.

I throw cranks all the time without a crankin rod.

Just really dont want an extra fast tip. That falcon

will throw small and med sized cranks great.I would recommend the 7ft.Plus it will make a great all rounder 8-)

I would check out ebay with a couple of sellers having Kistler rods on clearance and some going for less than $100. There was an Alton Jones Crankbait rod there with the bidding starting at $49.95 + $21.95 shipping that didn't get not one bid. Another seller had a couple of the Quantum Energy rods for right around $70 as well with shipping.

Hope that helps

The bucoo should be fine, my buddy has the 7'ft medium and it works just fine. Lamiglass excel 7'ft glass rod for $100, and spotaholic has a 6'9" kistler argon cranking rod for sale right now for $125 that probably won't last long.

If I were you I would forget the split grips, save some bucks and buy the BPS crankin' stick. Everyone who has used them give good reviews. Plus when they go on sale they are that much cheaper.

True I have two of those and they are on sale right now.

If you move up to 7' you're options open up quiet a bit, not to mention it wouldn't hurt with casting distance

6'6" in a split grip for under a C Note gives you few options.

id add the Berkley® Lightning Rod® Shock Series to the list. ive not fished with this rod but i did spend about 30 mins in the store with a Sol mounted on the rod tossing a 3/8 oz practice weight. i liked everything about the rod.

i wouldnt set your mind to split grips, that removes a lot of good rodsout of the game.

also, if you can take your reel to the store and play around.

Personally, I would get myself a Shimano clarus 7'0"-7'2", medium action.  They are by far the best bang for the buck, and just at around 70 bucks, they are worth it.  They also have a lifetime limited warranty.  That is well worth it!  But then again, my reply is biased, I throw pretty much only shimano rods... haha

Thanks for all the help everyone! I settled for another Abu Garcia Vendetta 6'6" MF.  Havent tried it out yet but it feels good. Ill give a review after I fish it.

I just fished my new 6'6" Vendetta MF this morning, it handles like a dream.  Its super sensitive I could feel everything the lure was doing. Lost a brand new crankbait on some submerged brush, but other than that I had a good experience with this new rod.  It really flings the lures out there.  It seems to be able to toss a 1/4oz lipless farther than a 1/4oz lipped crankbait...  That doesn't bother me any.  I highly recommend this rod for people who are on a budget and want a high end feel.

I've been throwing bandit 100's on the new SK crankbait rod and I couldn't be happier. It has the sensitivity and strong backbone. It was worth the price.
