Lubing question

Featured Replies

If you buy a new reel, and you want to do a routine bearing lube; but you don't know what brand of oil they used from the factory--should you

1. Just use whatever oil you want

or

2. Clean the bearing and THEN oil it

???

NEVER just use whatever. always clean the bearings, then use something like Abu Garcia Reel Oil/Grease. WD40 works as a great cleanser. Clean, grease, then place.

Deep clean the bearing pack and use a QUALITY reel oil.

WD-40 isn't a good cleaner it leaves a residue behind....

For deep cleaning you can use a safe product like Simple Green and super hot water (making sure to rinse well and dry well).

Or you can take the less safe way and use what others would generally recommend like Naptha (lighter fluid), or Acetone. Making sure they are dry also, before re-oiling..

Tight Lines All!!!
