4 power Dobyns vs MH St Croix

Hey all,

Does anyone own both a 4-power Dobyns and a MH St Croix?  Just wondering how the 2 compare in real-world fishing applications.

The 2 are rated with similar lure ratings (The St Croix MH is rated for 3/8 - 1 oz whereas the Dobyns H is rated for 1/4 to 1 oz) but I'm wondering how different they are.

I'm eyeing the 7' MH St Croix Legend Bass rod for tasks like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, paddletail swimbaits and lipless baits up.

I have the Dobyns Champion 683C. The rod's "power" is

comparable to the St. Croix EC70MH and G. Loomis

MBR854C.  All three are fast action.

8-)

I have the Avid series MH 7' and it is a great rod.  I use it for the apps that you described and love it as a spinnerbait rod.  At times I do throw 1/4 oz baits (ex. bandit 100 series) with it and it does get the job done. It is my first and only MH rod (as of now) just bc I thought it would be a well rounded rod for most baitcasting situations.  I have not used the other rod but the weight rating seems to apeal to me bc I do throw 1/4 oz baits.

I don't have a MH St Croix, buy my Dobyns 734 is used for exactly what you listed. Awesome spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. Very versatile.

  Goodluck.
