Tying on a Sammy

Featured Replies

What is the best way to tie on a Sammy as far as action goes.

1) Tie right to the tie-on

2) Put on a split ring than tie on

3) Throw on a snap and tie on.

Forgive the dumb question but I'm just trying to get as much info on my new lures as possible. Thanks.

I think that it is based on personal preference. I like to tie directally to the tie so you can control its action better, but then again thats just me. And I dont use snaps, so no help there, sorry.

Split rings are often added to the nose of walking baits to give them enhanced action. I have found it necessary on certain lures but not with my Sammy 100's. I have been perfectly happy with the action I achieve with the lure without the split ring and have had my success to show it. Try it both ways and see which you like more  :)

It is not necessary to modify each and every bait on the market.  In MOST circumstances, if a bait worked better with a splitring, they would have put one on.  If a snap made it work better, they would at least suggest it.  We all make things way to hard sometimes.

Try tying with a loop knot.  I've noticed an increased glide on walking baits and jerk baits.

Last question on the Sammy.....

Getting some #4 Owner feathered trebles for a couple of baits. Do you guys think it would kill the action of the Sammy? Would it help throwing that on the back of a walk the dog bait?

No, it won't kill the action and yes sometimes it helps.

I have feathered trebles on some of my topwaters, incl. sammy's.
