Someone explain the difference?  The price is higher for GLX.

The way I understand it, the Mossyback blanks are in between the GL's and the IMX's. I own a couple Mossybacks and they are high quality rods, just like all Loomis rods are. It's definitely not as light or sensitive as an IMX or a GLX but it's a good quality rod nonetheless.

I have the BCR802 and the BCR803.

FBL pretty much summed it up.  If your wanting the best of the best go with the GLX.  I will warn you though.  Once you fish a rod like a GLX and you switch to a lesser rod you will not like it anymore.

glx and imx are carbon scrimmed.

mossybacks (as well as bronzebacks, cbr's and sbr's) are blends...possibly imx, gl or even glass...how much, loomis ain't telling.

Everyone makes out as though a Loomis isn't any good unless you buy the rods for $300-400.

If that's the case I would question whether Loomis rods are all they are cracked up to be. When there are so many other 'good' rods out there for much less than the GLX and even IMX rods.

FWIW I think the species specific rods I own or have used work just fine.

The lengths, powers, and actions are unmatched by anyone else. The warranty and customer service reputation is just icing on the cake.

One thing I simply can't understand though is spending $200 plus for a crankbait or spinnerbait rod. That baffles me. I've not fished with either but they would have to make the perfect power/action crankbait rod for 'me', before I would even consider it.

Nobody says that, everybody says that GLoomis rods shine at the IMX level and above, below that GLoomis rods are as special as rods of the same price range and in that price range there 's a bunch of good rods from where to choose.

I am a Loomisoid, like LCM said: " They do make the  perfect power / action for me . ", is a GL2 better than a Falcon Cara or a Fenwick HMG that cost about the same give or take a few dollars ? , not really, I 've fished with the three but I prefer the GL2 above the other two ( perfect power / action for me ); GL2 better than the Crucial ? not really, for about the same price Crucials are relatively better than the GL2. So in that level the GL2 is nothing special, it 's a good 120-130ish rod just as good as the others in the same price range.

So if you are on the look for a good rod in that price range ( 120-130 ish bones ) GLoomis is only one of the many rod manufacturers that offers a good quality rod in that price range, nothing special, only a good quality rod.

i don't think anyone was saying the non-glx, imx models are of lesser quality...just different materials.

with braid, i actually prefer the mossyback over the glx bcr...the mixture of braid + recoils sounds like an ex-wife.

fwiw...have yet to pay more than $150 for a cbr or mossyback...at that price, they are a steal.

There are a lot of good rods for much less than the GLX or IMX rods but I dare say none of them will feel as good as a GLX or IMX.  If they did, Loomis wouldn't be able to sell so may GLX and IMX rods at the higher price.
