Split Rings

Featured Replies

I'm looking to replace some hooks that have rusted over the winter, and I wanted to know what size and brand split rings should I use?  The lures are all about 1/4 to 5/8 of an ounce, and I have never bought split rings before.  I looked on Tackle Warehouse and they have one really inexpensive brand (~ $0.90) and then two that I think are too expensive (~$5).  Is there a good middle of the road choice?

I'd make sure I got something that doesn't rust. I'd also use about the same size rings that you're replacing. I think #4 is probably the most common size.

Visit Netcraft online. They have been selling split rings for more years than I care to think about. As well as most every bit of terminal tackle you can imagine. Plenty of size charts as well. A good company to do business with as well.

As far as size goes, that will vary depending on the particular bait.

As far as brands go, you can't beat the Owner Hyperwire IMO.

The prevalent size for bass crankbaits is #2.  #1 for baits 1/4 oz or less.  Round stainless steel rings from Janns Netcraft, Stamina or BassPro have worked just fine for me.  Don't see a reason to get too fancy about it.

I saw split rings with a pound rating that break away instead of loosing your lure when snagged.  But strong enough to hold a fish, you would hope so any way.  Don't know the price.

A plug knocker is cheaper, and works better.
