Crankin reel Question

Featured Replies

Which one?  I have plenty of higher end setups, but I dont do that much crankin.  So, I am not looking to spend to much on a reel.  That being said, which reels would you guys recommend.  Im leaning towards the BPS PQ.  Now I know that its a BPS product, but for the little usage it will get, will it work for me?  Your thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

You don't need a special rod or reel for

occasional cranking. Whatever you are

using for topwater will be just fine.

RW's right if you intend to throw cranks once in a while. If you want to do more, especially a day of deep cranking, you might want a lower ratio reel like a Revo Winch. As far as the BP reels go, I've got one and haven't had any problems. I got mine $50 in the Flea Market forum.

The only thing you might need a dedicated cranking reel for is fishing really deep divers like a DD22.

I don't do much cranking either. When I do, I use a BPS PQ in 6.4:1 (26IPT). It works just fine. It is the same rig I use for hard jerkbaits and topwater walking baits.

I used a David Fritts crankin reel for a couple of years and it was a great, inexpensive reel. I later opted for a higher end reel only because I was doing an insane amount of deep cranking and I thought I needed to upgrade.
