Choosing line.

Featured Replies

After looking around and taking some advice, I am going to be purchasing two new setups.

1. 7' Mod Fast Baicasting for cranks/topwater

2. 7' M/F Spinning for soft plastics

What line would everyone suggest spooling with these for the different applications that I will be using them for?

Thanks

1. 10-12 lb mono or copolymer

2. 6-8 lb flourocarbon OR 8-10 lb braid with a flouro leader.

I use Gamma lines and they have done me right. Bottom line is choose a line that you have confidence in.

I put a range of lines because you may go up or down in line size depenidng on the type of water and cover your fishing. Obviously, the heavier or snaggier the cover go up in size.

Just my .02 8-)

I would normally suggest flourocarbon for cranks but since this is a duo puropose rod I would go with copoly.

1. 12-15lb copoly ( P-line Evolution is my choice)

2. 8lb Fluoro ( P-Line 100%)

I just picked up both of these reels today.

Anything I need to do before mounting and spooling them?

Yeah...when you spool them, make sure the line comes off, the same way it goes on, i.e. the coils are in the same direction, if not, you'll see the line jumping off the spinning reel.
