OK looking for opinions on a Rod and Reel I am planning to buy... I plan on using mostly shallow to med diving Baits. Maybe a DD22 once and awhile if duty calls.

I am going to buy the Daiwa Fuego that TW has on sale and strap that to a Shimano Crucial CRC-C70MH or should I go with the CRC-C70M and just use my Mojo 7'mh for the DD22's..

Other rod suggestions are appreciated as I am new to Crank-baits.. I'm am going to mainly focus on cranking this coming year.

CRC-C70M gets my vote for a dedicated crank bait rod.mh is to stiff.

I like med/hvy , mod/fast for deep cranks.

Has anybody ever used the mentioned Crucial crank-bait rods?

Ive used both in the Shimano Compre line which uses the same TC4 construction. I liked them a lot and would have held on to them, but I wanted a lighter cb rod. The The Compre just felt a little heavy with the lighter reels I had on them. My guess is that the Crucial is lighter and more balanced. Go with the MH Mod/Fast for sure. You will not have fun, even occasionally, throwing a DD22 on a medium crankbait rod.

It might be okay to do that, but if you are looking to buy two rods, then I would go a little lighter for the shallower cranks, unless you are planning on fishing some very heavy coverage.

you should be ok but the flip side to this is those style of cranks tend to be on the lighter side. the Falcon Original Cast 7' Med Hvy i think would make a great rod for a blend of big and small. this series of rod is IMO a little lighter than what the rod rating states. you wont be wore out on big cranks and with a good reel should be able to toss 3/16 baits ok.

I'm gonna have to get one of these in my hands and see what it feels like...I want a good strong rod and it just seems like a Medium action rod would be to light to go from L.C 1.5 to a DT9 or 10..I just bought the Fuego from TW and it will be here monday.

The falcon MH 7' might be the rod I'm looking for...1/4oz to 3/4oz seems perfect over the Crucials 3/8oz - 1oz rating

Look at the Lamiglas composit xcc725 or Loomis CBR783.  I have one each and they are superb rods.  The new Lamiglas Excel CB rod is a glass rod and would be a great choice and the price is right at a hundred bucks. Good warrantee too.

Right on... I just can't decide if I want a M or MH. I realize to be most effective I need both. I just want a good rod to start out with, something that will cast the lighter baits(1/4oz) good and still use baits that go to about 15'deep effectively...

If you go medium, you may not have enough club for those deep bigger cranks. They'll put too much stress and bend in your rod. You actually lose effectiveness and setting ability.

I bought the original KVD crankin rod on sale at BPS last spring for $59. I put a REVO SX on it and it is one awesome set up. I origianlly had an extreme on it but had some serious issues with random backlashes. The extreme seems to be ok on rods that do not load up.

Jeez - everybody's got a different idea about what is and what ain't a decent crankbait setup.   After more than a few years experimenting, here is my current opinion.

BPS markets a Woo Daves Signature extreme rod XTR74MT.  $99.99 list, it frequently sells a BPS Independence, MO for $70.  I met Woo Daves at BPS - Springfield MO, he called this his light pitching rod.  I got one, I didn't like it for pitching - too much tip.

2 years later, I need another rig to throw cranks on and there it is, setting unused in the rack.  Turns out it is a great crank rod.  At 7'4", if you want to throw long you can.  I primarily throw half ounce cranks with it - square bills or Timber Tigers.  I liked it for cranks that now I have 3. (bought on sale for $70) 

I think for the money they are a great crank rod.  They are stiffer than average, but there is more than enough tip so you don't have to muscle up every time you want to throw long.

I searched for the longest time for a moderate priced "do-it-all" cranking stick.

The one I love that works great for me is the 7'2" E21 Original Carrot Parabolic Crankin' Stix. I would have gotten the 6'9" but I believe the 7'2" edges it out in overall versatility (particularly if you're a deep cranker).

Mated with a Shimano Curado 5:1 and 12 lb. Big Game. Handles 4wd Footloose's and Bomber Balsa B's and also pulls great on midsummer DD22's and Hot Lips.

I throw virtually all my cranks on this, with the exception of suspending jerkbaits, small floaters, and traps.

Some folks don't like the beta carotene err david carridine, I mean Carrot Stick. I think it's perfect for this application. Touchy feely rods are not E21's.

I still look over my shoulder sometimes with that darned orange stick slinging around...

I don't like fads, I'm a wee-bit antisocial in parks & recreation areas, and those old-timers think I'm some kind of city slicker with that carrot...

I'll tell you what though - it's a GREAT cranking stick!

Lightweight saves the day; particularly post-spawn into summer when I'm really chunkin and windin'...

Loomis, Falcon, Shimano have to be as good or better than the E21!

I have the 6'9" parabolic Carrot, but if you can't get past the color try the 7' mhm Avid.  Just my .02  8-)
