You might want to compare the specs of the new 2010 RCX reel - being sold for $109.99 - with the 2009 model Rick Clunn - still on clearance online for $71.82. It looks like all that has changed is the color/finish of the reel...

The 2009 model RC rods are just about sold-out online...

I haven't used the RC or RCX rods. I do have a 2009 RC reel, with another inbound right now, and it's a solid, quality reel with dual-braking. It's a bit heavy at 9.45oz but that's only about 1/2oz heavier than other similar reels and it does have a bit higher line capacity - 135yds/12lb.

FWIW

good advice.. get last years reel for cheaper... then use the money you were gonna use for the rod and get a better one

I have the RC 7'MF bc worm rod..I've had it for about a year..for the $$$ it's o.k...If I had to do over again, I would spend a few more bucks and get a Shimano..I paid 100.00 for mine, If you can get it for 80.00, I'd go for it.

I handled the new RCX reel last week and had the exact same thought. It appears to be the same reel in a funky new color. It still has the rubbery coating as well.

I didn't think to check out the rods, but I really like the idea of the ground cork/rubber grips. I did see a BUNCH of last year's RC rods on the clearance racks for about $60, but they don't come in 7' ML so I wasn't interested.
