which line for which setup

Featured Replies

i wondering what type of line to put on my crankbait setup and what pound test.

also what type of line for my finese setup(shakeyhead and weightless senkos) and what pound test.

10-12lb. Yo Zuri Hybrid on the crankbait setup

8-10lb. Yo Zuri, Trilene 100%, or Seagar Invizx Flourocarbon.

Yo Zuri is a good all around line. If you get more confidence with Flouro, then these are the two I have used and liked.  ;)

thanks for the help, any more suggestions?

I use #12 yo-zuri ultra soft for my cranking set up.

I would like to know this also, I have a Revo STX and Pro Qualifier that I am planning on buying 7' MH rods for to fish weightless and frogs with.  I now for the frogs I will go with braid, but I dont know what kind of line to use for weightless...  I love braid but I want to try something different.

If braid is what you like then you can use braid for weightless soft plastics, nowhere is written that you should use other kind of line, as long as you use the appropiate thickness you are using the "right" line. 30 lb braid is as thin as 6 pound test mono.

Well the braid was digging into the spool at 30lb so I up'd it to 65 and its works great for me now.  But would mono or Floro work best for weightless using a baitcaster?

I use as small as 4lb for finesse and weightless...of course, it depends on the conditions you have..i.e. heavy structure, rocks ect..Normally I'll have 6lb YoZuri Ultrasoft for weightless, and 10 or 12 lb yozuri for cranks.

I use 10XT Trilene for cranking. Stickin' with mono here, and I've used XT for years. Lotsa good choices out there now I hear.

Have gone to FC for most deeper jigging. So far I like BPS the best -8lb for most jigworming.

ok, dangit ill have to use that on my crankbait setup then sicne i already bought it, ill but some 10# fluro for the shakeyhead rod then i guess.

For weightless I'm using braid with 2-3 ft. fluoro leader.

My bait casters are spooled with 12# fluoro for nearly everything except surface lures where I use a limp mono and my crig is spooled with braid where I use mono or fluoro for my leader depending how much off the bottom I want the bait.

I like the fluoro because it sinks and I use the braid for sensitivity with the crig. If I was fishing more stained water I'd use more braid but I have this thing about the braid showing up in clear water. It probably doesn't make much difference. Remember these critters have a brain about the size of a pea. I can't forget since my wife reminds when I come home after a good days fishing but a poor days catching.
