Rods

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a G-Loomis Casting Rod 6'6" Medium Heavy Fast Action rod. I want a rod for each type of lure I am going to use. What can I use this rod for? What would it be the best suited for and what kind of line. Right now I have 20# power pro line and was thinking about using this setup for my top water lures.

Also, I am not sure what rods/casting or spinning to go with for my senkos, crank baits and jigs. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi lt - not to sound like a smarty-pants but, you're kinda going about it backwards. One will usually begin by asking "What will I be fishing for and with what reel and line?", then choose a rod to compliment that.

Since you already have that nice Loomis, I would recommend using it for jigs and/or worms. The 6-6 length will give you the ability to cast these deep-working baits farther. IMHO, topwater baits are better served with a 5 to 6 footer, giving one better accuracy in lure placement.

That rod will be able to throw most lures, so experiment and find what you like. It is just about perfect for frogs and toads (I would prefer a 7').
