Why my theory is if you release them there they swim right back to there beds I personally have seen this and do it a lot it has also been tested that bass have instinctive direction to there bed so even if you drift while the fish is in the boat on a windy day they can still find there way back however i do practice CPR (Catch Photo Release)

I agree, but. Most of the lakes that I fish are Heavily pressured, at any given time, there are hords of wouldbe anglers trying to get the big girls off their beds in shallow water. If you, or anyone that has any bassin skills saw some of these jokers, you'd have to be disappointed that these fools actually fish.

All they do is distract the fish, and aggravate them so much, that they tend to keep moving off their beds..I refuse to do that. There have been more than a few floaters in one of the lakes, I'm talkin 6 to 8 lb bass..so we Need all the bass tha can spawn to do so.

I'm not against bed fishing in a lake that can allow bass to breed. Most guys don't have a clue on how to bed fish anyways.

i'm hard headed , i would rather catch some big girls when they are not spawning , bed fishing is too much of a temptation for other anglers to catch big fish , but i would rather be skunked 90% of the time and catch these fish just 10 % of the time on swimbaits or other methods .. i hope everyone out there doesn't harm the fish that are spawning and maybe just plain not bedfish , just my opinion  :D

This is isn't going to help much but I use it all depending on the fish and situation. I have everything from six pound test to fifty plus pound braid and everything in between. I can catch most with braid but sometimes I have to use light line as well.

yeah I know what you mean it is all in presentation and finding that sweet spot on there bed. I totally see where you are coming from and I wont touch any bed if the fish is over say 4 or 5 pounds last year we had a great spawn season I personally saw some 12lb plus fish and is very tempting to catch these fish when there so vulnerable but we need to let these fish alone and catch them this fall haha 8-)

I didnt mean to start a debate on the ethics of bed fishing.  Personally, I plan to this spring and my main question that I have is whether I can use PowerPro braid, or if I need to downsize with flourocarbon or a flourocarbon leader.  Thanks.

What line does everyone use when they are fishing for bass on beds? Is it all about invisibility? Im looking for ways to increase my success this spring. Thanks for the help.

"NO LINE" Let the fish alone.

If you prefer to leave the fish alone, then I prefer you leave this thread alone.  There isnt anything wrong with anyone's choice to not fish for bass on their beds.  However, I asked for opinions from members who do utilize this technique.  If you dont have an oppinion to offer from that point of view then dont reply.

Like I said, no need to change line, but if you must, attach a fluro leader to your braid.

I appologize to the OP, didn't mean to start a debate.

I use Fireline 30 # Braid with a 12# fluoro leader.  Don't let the debaters get to you, unless they just don't fish during 1/4 of the year, they're fishing over spawning fish.   Please treat them gently, and C&R.
